GARDEN PROJECT

Description. The real estate company office is situated in a detached house in a newly built housing area. There are no existing trees and the territory is mainly flat. On the south side it borders with a ditch.

Client's requirements. The client's wish was to design a spacious parking lot for approximately 15 employees and guests. The front area of the building has to be decorative in all seasons. At the back side of the house there is a summer entrance, therefore the client wished to plan a terrace for company events by the entrance and plantings, which would be decorative in summer.

Design concept. The main concept of the design is to create a representative as well as recreational garden for company purposes.

The parking lot is organized in two sides of the house and screened by decorative shrubs from the recreational zone. The green area by the main entrance is fully shaded, therefore it is planted by shade loving rhododendrons and ground covers, which will provide decorativity all through the year. The area by the gates is also significant - it is planted by a sculptural group of evergreen plants: globe-shaped thujas, cone-shaped junipers and alone standing plants of a decorative form Chamaecyparis pisifera ‘Filifera Nana'. During the season spring and summer flowers are being planted in this area.

On the right side of the house there is a blank facade, which is a perfect background for a sculptural group of plants. The spring flowering planting area is situated here. There is a rhythm created by groups of upright thujas, which interchange with decorative shrubs, flowering in the spring. The ground is covered by white and pink flowering Erica carnea, which flower early in the spring. The spring aspect is important here, since this is an area most frequently visited in the spring.

On the south side of the house a summer terrace is situated, where the staff can sit down and have an outdoor meeting. The wooden terrace is lifted up to the level of the 1st floor and it has a long distance view towards the surrounding fields. The transparent fence is not screened to leave the view open. A long distance view also creates an impression of a bigger garden. The terrace is designed in a form corresponding to the architecture of the office building. The plantings by the terrace are flowering during the warm season of the year. Such flowers are chosen, which have a long flowering period. The composition is based on contrast principles. Light inflorescences of decorative grasses contrast with the flowering plants and give the composition a more light and dynamic effect.

At the south right corner of the garden a small terrace is situated to provide opportunity of more distant rest or communication. The terrace is designed in a form of a hexagon, matching with the veranda of the building. The plantings around the small terrace are arranged in a triangle shaped flowerbed, containing long time flowering flowers and decorative shrubs.
