GARDEN PROJECT

Description. The deer garden property has a large size of many hectares, which consists of beautiful wild meadows and forest land. The territory is completely natural, where the beauty of nature is exposed in it's full flourishing. Meadow flowers grow in the wild, birds sing and fly in the sky and deer graze in the pastures around the living house. The territory is intended for organizing hunting undertakings. There are two buildings on the site - a living house made of horizontal beams and a barn. There are also beautiful ruins of big stones on the property.

Client's requirements. The client wished to enhance the natural beauty of the site by not intruding with a lot of artificial plantings into the site. By choosing to build a horizontal beam house the client has chosen a natural country design style, which should be interwoven also in the newly designed landscape elements. The client asked to project a fence around the living house surroundings to prevent wild deer from coming too close and damaging the house and the plantings. Another request was to plan a parking lot, a resting place in the garden and a convenient network of roads.

Design concept. Since the territory is placed in a beautiful country area with a horizontal beam architecture and it has remains of history survived with the stone ruins, the design concept is to accumulate elements of ancient country estate planning with the mythology of the specific region by using mainly wild plants for new plant groups.

The newly planned design elements are centered around the ancient core of a country household - the fireplace or the country hearth, which used to fulfill the most urgent needs: need for warmness, light and need for food. The fireplace construction is made from wooden poles, arranged in a form of an ancient building or ancient chimney, which used to be built in the beginning of 20th century over open fire in the middle of the kitchen. Chains hanging from the top of the construction hold a big old style pot, which can be used to prepare soup over open fire after a good take in the hunting.

A similar construction is projected for the resting place, which is situated in a circle of ruins, similar to the existing ruin walls. The construction can be overgrown with climbers after the client's request. Around the ruins a flowerbed with colorful summer flowers and perennials is planned. The construction can be lit with petrol lamps during the dark hours to make the arbour look more inviting.

Round timber beams, placed on the ground level connect the arbour with the fireplace. Mythology signs of sun are encarved in the wood to symbolize light leading to the fireplace. Further the beams are lifted up on a higher level to provide seats for guests.

The old ruins in the territory are maintained and planted with birch trees, which symbolize, that all man made constructions are overtaken by nature someday. In one end of the ruins pyramids made of stones are projected as dedication to the three main mythology gods: Laima, Mara and Dekla.
